Hello! I'm Minchan Kim! Welcome to my portfolio website. I'm currently an Engineering Science student at the University of Toronto, majoring in Bachelor of Applied Science in engineering science. I'm passionate about designing, web development, data analysis and project management. In my free time, I enjoy digital drawing and listening to music.
minchanportfolio.com is my personal website that I have created from scratch using Django, mainly with Python, HTML and CSS. I hope this website can demonstrate my skills in website development!
I'm a hard worker, very proactive and always open to learning new things!
Graduated from St.Andrew's College with Andrean Diploma with Honours, which is awarded to "complete men and well-rounded citizens" who have distinguished in the areas of academics, athletics, leadership, co-curriculars, and community service.
Currently enrolled in University of Toronto St.George campus, majoring in Bachelor of Applied Science in engineering science.
Estimated graduation year: 2023
St.Andrew's College, SAC, is located in Aurora. I have attended the school for three years, from grade 10 to grade 12.
In St.Andrew's College, I started learning about programming. I clearly remember that first day of coding club, where I had no idea what was going on.
but I was very passionate about learning as much as I could, and now, I'm here!
Studying in the Engineering Science program was and is a challenge.
Especially, balancing the school work and activities outside of the classes was hard.
However, I tried to manage my time both in studying as well as in self-development.
As a result, I still have a lot of non-academic activities from high school going on, which helps me maintain
healthy mental health, as well as healthy social interactions.
With four other team members, we developed the web application with REST APIs to serve the small businesses requiring additional identities.
I took the role of a project leader, who oversees the entire project, contacting the clients directly, and much more.
From this experience, I learned the industry-standard software developing processes, managing the projects, and using the communication tools to interact with the clients.
During the summer of 2020, without any previous knowledge going into the project, I learned about Django, Html, CSS, and Javascript.
As a personal project, I have built the combined study engine website which contains to-do lists, graphing calculator, study source, mark management system, and a lot more.
As a member of the University of Toronto Aerospace Team, I was a part of the Attitude Determination and Control System group to ensure that once the CubeSat is launched, it doesn't spin continuously.
My groupmates and I did lots of research to address all the torques that would affect the CubeSat and did presentations to the whole team.
I am a current member of the University of Toronto Engineering Consulting Association.
The club was formed in 2020, so I am the first associate of the club, after very competitive interviews.
Here, I learned a lot about consulting, how to deal with clients, as well as how to effectively present our deliverables.
Participated in two Hackathons ran by the University of Toronto. The first one being Major League Hacking in 2019,
and one from 2020, NewHacks.
I had a chance to fully concentrate on web development for 24 hours, gathering all the knowledge I had previously.
During the Canadian National Exhibition in 2018, I worked as an outreach manager for the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre.
I was responsible for running the booth and introducing the outreach program to the public.
I was also responsible for managing the donations and financials that we received.
In grades 11 and 12, I was a Library Leader to manage the school library from 4 pm to 10 pm.
My responsibility was to ensure that the library remains quiet and suitable for students to study.
It was a great chance to practice leadership as well as management skills from running the entire school library.
As a warrant officer in #142 St. Andrew’s College Highland Cadet Corps, I was responsible for running and leading my platoon in drills and parades.
This was a great experience to practice leadership: Being able to stand in front of the people and lead them, teach them the drills, and managing the issues and conflicts within the platoon were all very great practices.
The picture in the front is the shot I'm most proud of!
I was a member of the school marksmanship team, and we went to competitions around Ontario to compete against other cadet corps.
Practicing the shooting was extremely fun, so I made a ton of improvements compared to the beginning of my marksmanship career.
Jack.org is an organization that aims to enhance the mental health of students. I was a member of Jack.org for two years, 2017~2019.
As a general manager/presentation designer, I was responsible for arranging meetings or school presentations, as well as designing the presentations for speakers.
lastly, the club ran multiple surveys and events within the school to bring awareness of mental health to students.
